Adopting a busy routine is essential during the bustling times in your life. Read this blog post to find out how to get a handle on the hectic!
Busy, busy, busy…
We all go through busy seasons of life. Maybe you’re in college studying for your finals, a recent grad who is getting used to the 9-5 life, or a stay-at-home-mom with children that also have full schedules. Whatever the case is, you probably already know what all this busyness can wear you down over time. At Routine Ready, we are not fans of burnout. Having a busy routine for your busy life is fundamental to surviving your jam-packed days. I’m sharing the three most important things to consider when it comes to creating your busy routine.
BUSY ROUTINE RULES
1. Don’t procrastinate.
When you know you have a busy day ahead of you, there’s a good chance you might be tempted to hit snooze and avoid the inevitable. It’s time for a little dose of tough love — and trust me, I myself need this too, sometimes! The thing is, spending time thinking about how you don’t want to do something or how you just know it’s gonna be a crappy day is a total waste of your energy. In fact, the act of avoidance itself is what makes the matter at hand feel ten times worse than it actually is.
If you tend to get stuck in this sort of sulking, you need to realize that your attitude about your busy day/week/season of life is what can make or break it. Why not try to make the most of it and see the silver linings? So wake up earlier than normal if you have to. Align yourself for the day with a good morning routine — you can find a bunch of inspiration for morning routines here. When we’re busy, it really is all about mind over matter.
2. Have a brain dump, then prioritize.
Some people absolutely thrive off of being busy, but others, not so much. A lot of are prone to becoming overwhelmed when we have so much on our plates. If you find yourself in this camp, you need to take a moment to brain dump everything out. Seeing all of your tasks and commitments written out might be intimidating, but you have the opportunity to organize the jumble. Prioritize what’s most important so you know it’s accounted for and will get done. Then, everything else can follow suit as you see fit! It’s important to have a good game plan as part of your busy routine.
3. Stick with your low-level routines.
When you are walking (running) through a busy season of life, the most important thing to remember is that you still need to take good care of yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup — and yes, I know how cliche that sounds. It’s the truth though: you can’t literally pour from an empty cup, so why do we think we can keep giving and going when there’s no fuel in our tanks? Even though you’re busy, you still need to make and take time for you.
During these periods of time, stick to the absolute basics and opt for your low-level routines. I talk about the topic of different levels of routines extensively in this blog post. This isn’t the time for frills and fuss, and definitely isn’t the time to try anything new. Follow what works and gets the job done.
Final Thoughts
When life gets busy, you don’t have to put yourself or your goals on the back burner. All you need to do is refine your busy routine and you’ll be good to go.
